March

So my episode of “Rita Rocks” aired. And I found out right before the airdate that my entire scene had been cut for time. ARGH. I was so disappointed. I know the scene was really good and I had some really funny lines. So I am sad it did not air and that I will never even get to see it. I know this happens all the time (and it has happened to me before) but it is still a bummer. But hopefully they will bring me back on the show. It was recently picked up for a second season – which is great news.

I went straight to producers for the USA pilot “Operating Instructions”. I found out before Christmas I was “pinned”. So I kept my fingers crossed during the Christmas holidays until I got the news I officially booked the role. In January I got the news I booked the role!

Here is information on the show:

(from USA's press release) A top female trauma surgeon returns home from the horrors of Iraq to take a job at an inner-city hospital. As she immediately sets about saving lives, she quickly realizes that her battlefield exercises hardly prepared her for the ludicrous bureaucratic minefields of today's public health system and the romantic war games she's about to engage. From Conaco and Universal Cable Studios, written and executive produced by Judd Pillot and John Peaslee ("According To Jim," "8 Simple Rules," "Just Shoot Me"). Executive produced by Conan O'Brien ("Andy Barker, P.I."). and David Kissinger ("Andy Barker, P.I.").

My role was so much fun. I play a woman who bites off her husband’s thumb after he flirts with another woman right in front of me. I had two pretty funny scenes. Filming the pilot was an experience. We filmed in an abandoned hospital in Inglewood – which was a little spooky. Filming my scenes was quite a challenge – but in was a good experience. And it was great working with feature film director Andy Tennant (“Hitch”, “Ever After”). And I even mentioned after I wrapped to the writer/executive producer Judd Pillot that this could be a great recurring role. Every week I come into the ER – after having inflicted a new injury to my lout of a husband. I think that would be hilarious!

November

I went to producers for the hit ABC Family show “The Secret Life of an American Teenager”. My episode of “Prison Break” aired and I was really happy with how it turned out. I also went to producers for “Dexter” (Showtime) and to producers for a recurring role on “Valentine” (CW).

I also went straight to producers for the new LIFETIME sitcom “Rita Rocks”. They had me read for two roles. And a few weeks later I got the call that I was on hold for a different role (the roles had changed because they rewrote the script). And then I heard that I booked the show and they wanted me for the entire week. Woo-hoo!

And to make things more complicated – we were packing up to move at the same time. Brian and I just moved to a new home (a lovely rental house with lemon and grapefruit trees) and we are still surrounded by boxes. But we are thrilled to finally have peace and quiet (we had horrible neighbors in our last apartment) and our own space.

So the Monday after we moved - I reported to CBS Radford (my favorite lot – I filmed “Yes, Dear”, “According to Jim” and “The Game” here as well). Going to the lot every day for a week was so much fun– since doing a multi-camera sitcom is my dream job. Just walking on the lot makes me happy. I think I walked around with a goofy smile the entire week.

Everyone on the crew was really nice. It was a thrill to work with the amazing sitcom director Shelley Jensen. His credits on imdb are a mile long and working with him was like a sitcom master class. The star of the show Nicole Sullivan could not have been nicer. She is so amazingly talented and such a sweetheart. Even though she has had huge success in TV for years – she seemed to remember what it felt like to be a guest actor on show and that it can be difficult. I also got to meet her adorable young son as well. And Ian Gomez (who plays Owen – the neighbor) was also so kind and friendly.

And like the other multi camera sitcoms I worked on every night a new script arrived to my house with changes. So my lines kept changing (you get lines, you lose lines). So you always hope by the end of the week that your part is somewhat intact. I was fortunate – I got some good jokes. Our scene was pre-filmed so unfortunately I did not get to film in front of the audience. But it was a blast.

And I just went straight to producers for a new ABC show “Castle”.
August

Well, I had a fabulous time filming “Prison Break”(FOX). It was really a wonderful experience. Everyone was SO NICE and it was just a thrill (especially since I am a fan of the show). I don’t want to give too many details – since I know that spoiler hunters are constantly searching the internet for news (I found this out the hard way when someone took – without my knowledge - something I said off my website about my experience filming “Gilmore Girls” and put it on a spoiler website).

I had a very early call – so I didn’t really sleep the night before…I was too excited and also worried about missing my alarm (although I did set five alarms to be safe). So I was up bright and early and actually ended up at the FOX lot about an hour before my call (I never want to be late – so I usually end up being ridiculously early).

So I made my way to my trailer and it was very nice. Spacious with a TV, fridge, powerful AC (thank goodness - it was HOT) and it even had a shower! I was quickly sent to hair and makeup. And I got two of the nicest professionals doing my hair and makeup and they did a fantastic job.

Then it was off to the set for rehearsal. I was so thrilled to be working with a female director, Karen Gaviola. So few women are given a chance in Hollywood to work behind the camera (as a director, writer, studio head– you name it)– you would think it was the 1950s. So I was so pleased to be able to work with a smart, strong female director. She was wonderful to work with – I hope I get to work with her again in my career.

I had the great pleasure of working with Wade Williams (Bellick) and Amaury Nolasco (Sucre). Our scene was very technical (lots of camera angles) so I think we did the scene about 40 times to get all the coverage. But I loved it! I spent a lot of time chatting between takes with Wade Williams. He was so kind and generous to spend time talking to me – I got to find out about his early career (he almost went to the University of Washington) and how he ended up on “Prison Break”. And Amaury was also lovely to work with.

My scene also included the gorgeous Wentworth Miller but I did not get to directly work with him (which will make sense when you see the episode). I got to meet him and he was such a gentleman (and absolutely breathtaking – no wonder he is a TV STAR!). He couldn’t have been nicer.

And on my way back to the trailer I even got to chat with Jodi Lyn O’Keefe (Gretchen) –who is also stunning- when her little French Bulldog started barking at me from her trailer door. I went over and got to pet the doggie and spoke to her for a bit – and she was wonderful as well. For such a tough, violent show “Prison Break” must have the nicest cast and crew in Hollywood.

So all in all it was an amazing experience.
July

I auditioned for a series regular role for a Lifetime drama. I also went straight to producers for the NBC action/comedy “Chuck”.

I then had a last minute audition for a series regular role for an NBC sitcom. The role was being recast. First the role was for a female, then they changed it to male, they cast someone, filmed the pilot, then decided to recast and opened it up to make and female. I had only a few hours to race home and then get back to Paramount for the producers session. Thank goodness I keep up those cold reading skills! I did get laughs – so that was good. But then a few days later it sounded like the description of the role changed again. Oh well… I am always happy for the opportunity to audition.

I have been busy doing workshops and meeting Casting Directors. I then went in for my first mini-series – so that was great – called “Meteor”.

And then I went straight to producers for “Prison Break” (FOX) and I just found out I BOOKED “Prison Break”. Woo-hoo! I am set to film next week.
May

So the writer’s strike ended in February and things started to pick up a bit. I went to producers for “ER” (NBC) and “Brothers and Sisters” (ABC). I went in for “Two and a Half Men” (CBS). And just recently I auditioned for an HBO sketch comedy show and a feature film starring Brendan Routh.
December

A few highlights - went straight to producers for one of my favorite shows "Ugly Betty". And I auditioned for the new Jamie Foxx movie "The Soloist".

But now with the Writer's Strike everything has pretty much shut down. But I support the writers fighting the good fight!

Happy Holidays to all!
September

I filmed another episode of “The Unit”! It was so much fun to be back recurring on the show. Everyone was so nice and hopefully they will want my character Gina to return to the neighborhood once again. I was filming in the same cul-de-sac as my first episode. I got to work with a very large dog - my first time working with an animal on a TV show. The dog belonged to Abby Brammell - who plays Tiffy Gerhardt on the show. He was sweet -but he was also a (very big) puppy - so he was a bit rambunctious. It was wonderful to be back working on the hit show “The Unit”!

Some audition highlights - I went straight to producers for the new FOX comedy pilot “Hackett”. I also went straight to producers for the new ABC sitcom “Miss/Guided”. I do love comedy! And then I auditioned for a big supporting role in the Feature Film “The Fulfillment”. It was so great getting to go in for such a meaty role.
July

The new TV season has started – so hopefully things will get even busier.

Last month I had an audition for the NBC show “Las Vegas”. I also went in for the Comedy Central comedy “The Sarah Silverman Program” and for a play at the Geffen Playhouse.

And just recently I had an audition for the new Nickelodeon show “iCarly” and then straight to producers for the new NBC comedy “Chuck”. And two of my “House” episodes are re airing. I sure hope "House" keeps bringing me back - I do love working on that show. And the show was nominated for the Best Drama Series Emmy. How exciting!

April

So since my past posting I had two more episodes of “House” air on FOX. So that was cool. I was even featured in one of the promos.

And my episodes of "Desperate Housewives" (ABC) and "The Game" (CW) both re-aired.

I have had some auditions since I last posted. I went in for a series regular for a sitcom for ABC. I got to meet the producer and the writing was so fantastic – it was so much fun to do the scene. I then went in for a small role on a dramedy pilot for FOX

Then I had several auditions that were straight to producers. I went to producers for a comedy pilot for FOX. I went straight to producers for “Ghost Whisper” (CBS). It was me – and a bunch of guys. So I was the “other” choice. I then went straight to producers for two more FOX sitcoms. And then I had an audition for a recurring role for an ABC sitcom pilot. Love all the comedy pilots!

And “Because I Said So” is coming out on DVD May 8th!

February

It has been a crazy few weeks. In January, I filmed another episode of “House”. I was thrilled to be asked back to play Nurse Bev once again. This time I got to work with Omar Epps. Also in the scene? Rock star Dave Matthews. That is correct. My life can be surreal sometimes. Here is the press release about the episode.

*****

RECORDING ARTIST AND ACTOR DAVE MATTHEWS GUEST-STARS ON HOUSE
Matthews Plays Savant With Severe Neurological Impairment
Kurtwood Smith Guest-Stars in Episode
Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum recording artist and actor Dave Matthews, founder of the Dave Matthews Band, will guest-star on an upcoming episode of HOUSE. Matthews will play Patrick, a savant and virtuoso pianist who suffered a severe neurological impairment as the result of an accident when he was a child. Kurtwood Smith (That 70s Show) will guest-star as a former physician and Patricks father, who must make a potentially life-altering decision about his sons treatment. The episode is directed by HOUSE executive producer Katie Jacobs and is tentatively scheduled to air in March. HOUSE airs Tuesdays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
After Patrick is admitted to Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital with a rare movement disorder, his case attracts the attention of Dr. House (Hugh Laurie). House is intrigued as to why Patrick, who was a healthy 10-year-old at the time of his accident with no prior musical training, could suddenly play the piano flawlessly after suffering a severe injury. While trying to deduce the origin of the brain rewiring responsible for Patricks mysterious gift of music, House and his team must stop the deadly cerebral bleeding that is now threatening his life.
HOUSE is the No. 1 drama and the No.1 entertainment program on FOX and ranks No. 1 in the Tuesday 9:00 PM hour among all key demos, significantly outperforming its closest competitor in Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. HOUSE ranks in the Top 10 programs of the season.
Since their formation in 1990, Dave Matthews Band has sold more than 35 million albums worldwide to date and over 14 million concert tickets since 1992. In 2003, Matthews released his first solo album, Some Devil. The albums first single, Gravedigger, won Matthews a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance in 2004.

Omar and Dave were both wonderful to work with (although acting in a lead apron -which went all the way up to my chin - was a bit of a challenge). And I was thrilled to be working with the producer Katie Jacobs. She was directing the episode – and I am always happy to work with a female director.

It is 2007 and still the overwhelming majority of directors in this town are male – as are the majority of roles for actors. Just look at the casts of most TV shows and films. Usually on average around 70% are male characters – even though women are 51% of the population.. Although, it does seem the number of female writers and producers are growing so that is a hopeful sign. I hope to someday be join their ranks as a woman in a powerful position in Hollywood. Both in front of and behind the cameras (my dream is to star in and produce my own show). Because nothing will change until there are more women in positions of power to create interesting, funny, and riveting stories starring female characters. People will watch (just look at “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Desperate Housewives” – and in theaters “The Devil Wears Prada” to name a few examples)! Ok – I am coming down off my soapbox now.

I also was thrilled to audition for the CBS show “Shark”. I had never been in that casting office – so that is always a plus. I was called back to producers the same day – so that was fun. Hopefully they will think of me again.

Then I got to go to the “Because I Said So” Red Carpet Premiere. My first! So that was wonderful. It was down on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood at the amazing Cinerama Dome at the Arclight Theater. It was HUGE. I have never been in such a big theater (other than an Imax Theater). From the Arclight website:

*****
The Dome
Built (in only 16 weeks!) in 1963, Pacific Theatres’ Cinerama Dome opened with the “single-strip Cinerama” production of “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”, and has been host to nearly four decades of premieres and blockbusters since then. Still under the ownership of Pacific Theatres, the first and largest theater of its kind in the world has been carefully refurbished and refreshed. The signature marquee and portico on Sunset Boulevard and the 316 hexagons in the geodesic dome have been restored to their original dramatic presence. The Dome still seats more than 800 guests per showing, and the historic loge seating which has been a favorite of moviegoers over the years has been maintained. Sight and Sound: The Dome’s unique size, shape and history both require and allow some interesting technical differences from the newer ArcLight cinemas. Kinoton projectors, JBL speakers and Dolby and SDDS sound systems are used as they are in the multiplex. But the Dome is also equipped with a different model projector (FP75E) plus DTS 6-channel sound allowing 70mm films to be screened. The Dome sound system has been further upgraded with 44 computer-placed surround speakers (where there were previously 8) and the acoustics have been completely redeveloped, including the installation of sound absorbent materials in each of the hexagonal and pentagonal panels in the ceiling. The deeply curved (126 degree) screen has been replaced to its original size and shape – all 32 by 86 feet of it! - having provided 40 years of movielovers with an exciting sense of being surrounded and becoming part of the moving picture.

There was a ton of security and press, of course. When we walked in the theater there was a mountain of free popcorn and every kind of soda. I had always wondered what the big premieres were like - who knew even big stars and high powered executives like to eat popcorn at their own movies! Free screening, parking, popcorn and soda….ah…this is the life! We got great seats so we were able to watch as people came in. Diane Keaton walked right by us – munching on popcorn. She looked amazing. Then right before the lights went down – in came Mandy Moore (who I met the day I filmed) and Lauren Graham (who I worked with on “Gilmore Girls”) came in looking lovely.

So then the movie started. My stomach was in knots! I wasn’t sure which would be worse – being edited out and not being in the film – or being in the film and seeing myself on that HUGE SCREEN! So I was a nervous wreck – but I knew if I was in the film – it would be in the first fifteen minutes or so. And then – there I was. The Singing Bride! And I even got laughs. I was cringing from behind my hands – but from what I saw – it was pretty funny. It was quick – but – hey – I made the final cut.

Then the next hurdle was waiting to see if I was in the credits (I was not guaranteed credit – it was at the producer’s discretion). So I sat back and enjoyed the film – until the final credits. There went my stomach again. And then about10 or 15 names down the cast credit list – there I was! I started to laugh and cry a little bit. It truly was a thrill. All in all a fabulous evening.

I was then called in for ADR for “House” – otherwise known as looping – which means rerecording or adding dialogue in post production. I went to the Universal Lot – to a really beautiful building. So the looping was for the episode “Insensitive”. I don’t want to give anything away – but I got to add a line. Always better than losing a line! And the scene looks great. I can’t wait to see it when it airs next week.

Then I had a quiet birthday with my fabulous husband. Dinner at our favorite French Restaurant. And to top if off I was then invited to the Premiere of the Universal Feature Film “Breach”. It was down at a beautiful art deco theater in Westwood. Several of the stars of the film were there: Ryan Phillippe, Gary Cole, Bruce Davison, and Kathleen Quinlan. They all looked great in person. Once again – free popcorn and soda (Brian kept saying “are you sure it is free?”). Funny how enjoyable it is to go to a free movie premiere, popcorn and more stars than you can shake a stick at! But with our busy busy lives (and the cost of going to movies in LA) we don’t see as many films as we would like on the big screen. The movie was very good – we really enjoyed it. Then after the film– who did I chat with in the ladies restroom line? Kathleen Quinlan. Pretty cool!

December

Christmas in La La Land. Nothing like decorating a tree when it is 75 degrees and sunny. Sigh. I miss gorgeous and cloudy Seattle. But things have been going well.

My Guest Starring role on “Gilmore Girls” aired. And unfortunately, a chunk of my scene was edited out. I should say I am used to that – but it is still a stinker. Ah, well. That is the nature of the business. But other than that – I was very happy with how it turned out. And you could not really tell I was sick. I was worried I was going to sound like a frog.

And I got a wonderful surprise. A call to come back and film another episode of “House”! I filmed two episodes in Season One. So to be called back again in Season Three was a thrill. And once again – I get to work with the fabulous Hugh Laurie (I am a lucky, lucky girl).

I don’t want to say too much about my scene – because it will give the plot away. But let me say – it was a bit nauseating (ok – actually – it was really gross). But like my previous experiences – everyone was very kind (and although they are not flattering – wearing scrubs is quite comfy).

The same week – I was offered a role on one of my favorite shows “Scrubs”! But it filmed the same day as “House”. I love that show and I have been trying to get on it since I moved to LA. So that was bittersweet. I hope they will think of me again.

I then went straight to producers for a Guest Starring role on “The O.C.”. That was fun – I always enjoy meeting casting directors and having the opportunity to audition in front of producers and writers.

And another surprise. I will be filming ANOTHER episode of “House” in January. Yipee! Two in a row. Apparently some of the producers like me and changed a role that was for a technician to Nurse Bev (my new character name). So I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will keep bringing me back.

November

So lots of news to report. I went to producers for a new ABC comedy “Notes from the Underbelly”. I am always happy to get to audition for comedies – especially since there are so few of them on the air right now.

I also had an interesting experience. I went in to audition for a political commercial. I was very happy first of all to even get in this particular casting office. And I was told by my agent that the director was the amazing J.J. Abrams. So I knew there was only a very slim possibility he would be at the audition (he is a very busy man after all!). But when I walked in the room – there he was! He stood up and shook my hand and was so kind. I suddenly got very nervous and started to gush a bit about “Lost”. I managed to pull myself together and the audition went very well. When I left the room he stood up and shook my hand again! That just never happens. Amazing how one of the most successful and powerful men in Hollywood would also be the nicest.

Then I had an audition for a Guest Starring role on “Gilmore Girls”. Now this is one of my favorite shows. And it is very difficult to get on because it has a huge recurring cast – so there are not that many roles available. And I did have an audition once before -but I was not able to make it because I was filming another TV show. But it has been a while. And I do not know if this is the last year of the show or not – and I would love to be on the show - so the pressure was on!

When I went in to audition on the Warner Brothers lot I was very nervous. It was a great part of a very perky (and fast talking! This is “Gilmore Girls” after all) realtor. So I showed up early – because this was straight to producers. When I got there – one of the CDs (who I know from workshops) said she had kept pulling out my p&r over and over again – but was waiting to call me in for a great role. So that was a huge vote of confidence. But also pressure – because now I knew she really wanted me for the role and I needed to make her proud in the audition. I got a chance to do a quick pre-read with the other casting director. And before I knew it – it was time to audition.

There were several people in a small room, including the director and some producers. It went well – I got quite a few laughs. And one of the producers said “I would buy a house from you just because of your jacket (I was wearing a bubble gum pink tweed jacket that screamed perky realtor to me). As I left I noticed I was competing with about seven other women (and two of them had been series regulars on other tv shows). But on the way home I got the call - I booked the job!

Soon it was time to film. Before my filming day I went to the Warner Brothers lot for my costume fitting. And I found out from the costume designer that I was not filming on the WB lot – but at a house. That means I do not get to film on the WB lot again (for “Without A Trace” I had to film on location as well).

So the next day I was filming on location in a house in the Valley. Unfortunately, I was battling a cold. I woke up still feeling very sick and hoarse. I was guzzling tea, using a steam inhaler, sucking on lozenges – you name it. So when you see the show – I voice will sound a bit hoarse.

I got to the base camp and went to my trailer. I was then sent to the hair and make up trailer. I then got to meet Lauren Graham. She came in the trailer and said hello to me and shook my hand. She was just lovely.

We then had to go up to the house for a rehearsal. In the van I met David Sutcliffe (who plays Christopher). He was also incredibly nice. And I said hello again to the director, Jackson Douglas (who plays Sookie’s husband – Jackson.). He was also very friendly. We were shooting in this gorgeous house and it was very hot (it was almost 100 degrees! In November! ICK). But we got right to work rehearsing.

Then before I knew it – it was time to film. During all the filming I was not given any direction about my acting. So I just gave the same performance I did at the audition and hoped it was ok. I was also trying to not cough – which was a bit difficult. And I was sweating like crazy – since it was sweltering in the house and I was dressed in a wool coat (since the episode is set in December in Connecticut). But I got great feedback from the director and I even kept making David Sutcliffe laugh. Now that’s a compliment.

Then they had to do the reverse angle–where the camera would be on me for my close ups. So while waiting I had a nice long talk with David. He was so kind – saying what a great actor I am and that I should be on a series. I also chatted with Jackson – turns out he is from Seattle. So we talked about Seattle and how his career started. It was great – I was treated like an equal and had some wonderful conversations.

We then filmed my close ups. Lauren and David were squished by the camera – so while I was doing my lines I looked at them – and they were so adorable – I forgot my lines! It hit me how surreal this all was. So I said “I am so sorry – they were so cute – I forgot my lines!” That made everyone laugh. And a few more takes and I was done. Both David and Lauren came up to me and shook my hand and said I did a great job. And then the director did the same. It was so nice to hear.

Then as I was walking back to the van to take us to base camp – a crew member ran up to me and grabbed my arm. She said “If I were you – I would want to know this. Everyone at the monitor said you were amazing and were thrilled with you”. Wow! I thanked her profusely for telling me. It is great to hear that everyone was happy with my performance. It is so nerve wracking coming on a show – I just wanted to do a great job.

Then in the van on the way back to base camp I sat next to Lauren and I told her I filmed a small part in her movie “Because I Said So”. So we then talked about that movie, and “Gilmore Girls”. She then thanked me again and said I did a great job.

So that was it! Altogether a wonderful experience.

I have been getting a bunch more fan mail and requests for autographed photos. And more from Europe – England, France, Belgium. Pretty cool!

November

The trailer is out for "Because I Said So". Woo-hoo!

Check it out at www.becauseisaidsomovie.com
October

Last month I filmed a role for a sitcom “The Game” (THE CW). I was happy to get a role on another multi-camera sitcom because they are filmed in front of an audience. As a comedic actor I just feed off the energy of the audience. Plus it reminds me of being in the theater – and some of my happiest memories have been acting on a stage and making people laugh.

Unfortunately – my scene was filmed the day before the studio taping. Because the scene was set in a movie theater – they turned the cameras around and used the audience seating. It was a small part – but I got some great reactions. Hopefully soon I will get to film again in front of an audience.

And I just filmed “Desperate Housewives” (ABC). I was so happy to finally get on the show. I actually booked this show the first season. But I was filming “House” so I could not do the show. They have brought in me several times since then –(love love love the Casting Directors who keep bringing me in and have faith in my talent) so I was thrilled to finally book. I read for the role of a hospital employee.

But instead I was offered the role of a scout leader to a troop of little girls. Apparently Marc Cherry, the creator (and writer and producer – the head honcho) of “Desperate Housewives” liked my audition and wanted me for the scout leader – because he “wanted to establish me in the neighborhood”. The hospital employee would have been a one time only role. So all I can say to that is WAHOOOO!

So I spent two days on the set. It was quite a treat since I have not filmed on the Universal lot yet. And it was a hoot watching all the sightseeing trams go by with all the tourists (especially since I went on it as a child and just loved being on a studio lot). The base camp was perched up on a hill. And we had to take a van up to Wisteria Lane. It was very surreal walking around and seeing all the houses. I love the show and have never missed an episode. And up close it is so obvious that Gabrielle’s house was The Munster’s House. Very cool. I saw Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, and Doug Savant. It is always great to watch talented pros do their work. So I am crossing my fingers that they will bring me back!

This week I have a callback for the CBS Showcase. I had to write original material (two one minute comedic monologues) so that was an extra challenge. But I am always happy to have the opportunity to make people laugh.
September

This has been a busy few weeks. Things have really picked up since the new TV season is now in full swing. I have been networking like crazy – doing drops, postcards, workshops, and it sure has been working.

I went in for the ABC show “Boston Legal”. That was a treat. Then I went to producers for the CW comedy “Everybody Hates Chris”. I got to meet the legendary Debbie Allen. She is a dancer, actress, choreographer, director, producer – wow – such an inspiration to women in the industry.

I auditioned for the ABC Talent Showcase and got a callback for that as well. Then in quick succession – I went to producers for the drama “Close to Home” (CBS), producers for the sitcom “Girlfriends”(CW), to producers for “The George Lopez Show” (George Lopez was there and he was absolutely wonderful) and to producers for “The Game” - a new comedy for the CW. Whew. And I have been put on “hold” for “The Game” (which I think means I got the role – if it stays in the script. There are always a ton of rewrites in comedy and the part may be cut). All while having a brutal cold (my second horrible cold in two months). Not too shabby.

And I have been getting fan mail! Honest to goodness fan mail. From all over the US, Canada – even Belgium (yes, Belgium – land of chocolate and Tintin). I think it is from popularity of “The Unit”, but several also mentioned my “According to Jim” episode.

July

My new demo reel is up on my website. And a bunch of other fun clips. I hope you'll take a look.

And the latest news on the Universal Feature Film "Because I Said So" is that it will be released in February 2007. I will post any more information when I hear something.

And "The Unit" is starting Season Two.

If you would like to see me back on the show, please go to www.cbs.com. At the bottom of the screen click on Feedback. Please then email CBS to bring me (and my character Gina) back to "The Unit".
June

Well, last month my Guest Starring episode of “Without A Trace” aired. And yippee – all of lines were intact! I was pretty happy with how it turned out. I have received some wonderful feedback – so that is very nice. Hopefully having this on my resume will lead to bigger and better things.

“The Unit” was picked up for a second season by CBS. Yeah! It is fun being on another HIT show. Hopefully they will need Gina (my character) to come back. I will keep my fingers crossed. And my episodes are now re-airing on CBS. And I read that the Season One DVD will be out soon. Boy – that was quick!

And very interesting - I was asked to appear in a book! It is about actors of the stage and screen. And the nice thing is that is it not only about “famous” actors. It is the second in a volume and it has Academy Award winners, Emmy winners, familiar working actors, and rising stars. I will post more information when I find out the publication date.

And while looking around on the web I had a nice surprise. I found out I was featured on a flyer for my headshot photographer Laura Burke (see it under FUN STUFF). Pretty cool. She is a fantastic photographer. Laura is great at capturing the personality of her subjects.

I went straight to producers for “Monk” (USA). Unfortunately I was way too young for the role. But hopefully they will remember me for another role. I love the show and Tony Shaloub so I will keep my fingers crossed.

I just did my new reel. I have added my new “Without A Trace” scenes – as well as some additional footage. I am really happy with it. It will be up on my website soon.

May

My adventures in Hollywood continue. I was thrilled to find out last week that I was cast in a Guest Starring role on the Season Finale of “Without A Trace”. But then as the week went on I received 4 new scripts…each day a new rewrite. So the scenes that I worked so hard on with my acting coach were gone and replaced by new scenes. Oy vey. But rewrites happen all the time in tv and movies.

I went to the Warner Brothers lot for my costume fitting. Warner Brothers has to be the most beautiful studio lot in LA. The costume department alone was STUNNING. I was excited to finally play a lawyer and get to wear a suit. Well, instead – they decided I was going to be a FUNKY LAWYER. I look more like I own an art gallery owner.

Then later in the day I got my call time. I had to be at the set at 530 am Monday morning in Downtown LA. Too bad - I thought I would finally get to actually film on the WB lot.

The law office set was set up in this run down office building. My first scene was the “flashback”scene with the main guest star, played by the lovely Natalie Zea. Her character, Jennifer, is my friend and co-worked who disappears. During the scene we were supposed to be eating lunch and talking. So at 7:30 in the morning we had to eat salads. Neither of us ate it really. It is too hard to act and eat, if you don’t have to. I think the scene went well. The director, Jeannot Szwarc, was wonderful. He gave us so much direction and attention. He really wanted to get the best performances out of us.

Then came my second scene. This was the one with Anthony LaPaglia and Marianne Jean-Baptists. First we had a quick rehearsal. And then we were off and running. It is a challenge to do a three person scene because of all the angles. First a wide shot (showing all of us) and then close ups for all three of us. I think by the time we finished I said my lines almost 40 times. Whew! I am hoping the finished product looks great.

April

Wow - I have been very busy. I have a lot of news to report.

First of all - "The Unit" started airing on CBS. And the show is a HIT! CBS was very smart to schedule it right after "Navy NCIS". My episodes have aired. Unfortunately, I had some dialogue cut out of my last episode. But hopefully CBS will bring the show back (and I hope I will be asked back). I am really proud to be on this show.

I recently filmed my first AFI short film. And I have been busy networking (workshops, sending postcards, submissions). I have had quite a few auditions. I went in for a comedy pilot "Notes from the Underbelly". I had another audition for "Joey" (sitcom on NBC). Then I went in for a recurring role on a drama pilot "Women in Law". Then I went to producers on two more comedy pilots, "Mr. Nice Guy" and "Andy Barker, PI". Then I went in for a new comedy series on the IFC Channel with the long title of "The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman".

And just yesterday I auditioned for a GUEST STARRING role on the CBS drama "Without a Trace". And I just found out I BOOKED IT! YIPEE! I play a lawyer (double yipee! My first lawyer role!). In the episode, my character works with the woman who has disappeared. I have some meaty scenes. And one scene is with Anthony LaPaglia and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. Woo hoo! I film it next week. And since it is episode 24 - I think it must be the season finale. I am very excited.

February

Hello! Updates from Hollywood! I am behind in my updates.

First of all, “The Unit” is now set to premiere on March 7th at 9pm on CBS. The show is now on the CBS website (www.cbs.com). Yipee! So far I appear in three episodes. I am not in the pilot - which I am guessing will air on the 7th. I appear in Episode 1 ("Stress"), Episode 2 ("True Believers"), and Episode 4 ("200th Hour"). But they may air episodes out of order. I hope everyone will watch! And please email CBS to keep airing the show and to order a second season (and to bring me and my character back!)

And "The Unit" was featured as a “Mid-Season Show to Watch” in TV Guide. The show was even featured on the cover! And “The Unit” is another “show to watch” according to a recent Entertainment Weekly. Yeah!!!!!

I recently filmed my role of the “Singing Bride” for the Universal Feature Film “Because I Said So”. It was quite an adventure! A few days before filming I went for my wedding dress fitting. They wanted a comic effect – so I have an over the top gown with a huge petticoat and lots of beads. Not very attractive – but anything for a laugh, eh?

The morning I was set to film I had a very early call (up at 3am. Crikey.). I showed up at the base camp at 5am in Pacific Palisades (a very ritzy area on the water between Santa Monica and Malibu). I had my hair and makeup done. The makeup was a bit over the top as well, I think to match my dress.

Then I went over to the set – a gorgeous house up on a cliff overlooking the water. It was an outdoor wedding scene. I got to meet Mandy Moore, who is starring as one of Diane Keaton’s daughters. She was lovely.

And then I got to do my song. And they picked a wacky one: Roberta Flack’s “Feel Like Making Love To You.” And the director wanted it completely over the top and sung like a bad opera singer. Very much like the early "audition" episodes of "American Idol". I had to sing it many, many times. But everyone said it was hilarious. Apparently, even the crew was going around mimicking it – which I was told is a huge compliment (it is hard to make Teamsters laugh!). When the filming was done I got wonderful feedback from the crew and the director. It was such an honor to work with director Michael Lehmann. And Mandy Moore shook my hand and said how funny I was.

And the icing on the cake (pun intended)…when I was done the producer for the DVD (for all the great extras, behind the scene info, etc) said he wanted to do a special segment on me! WOO HOO! So I did an “interview” as my character, complete with improv and more wacky singing. And then an interview, just as myself. YEAH! Of course, there is no guarantee my scene will be in the finished film (or even anywhere on the DVD). But keep your fingers crossed that I will be in both!

I went to producers recently again for "Desperate Housewives". I think the previous times I have gone in the roles were written out (since I watch every episode and never noticed the parts I auditioned for). Hopefully some day soon I will get on the show. It is so well written and very entertaining.

And for fun Brian and I went to a taping of “Dancing with the Stars”. It was fun -but also exhausting. You have to get there very early and wait and wait and hope to get in - even though we had tickets. But we did get in and it was enjoyable.

December continued

Well, it looks like "The Unit" will begin airing on CBS in March 2006. No dates or times yet - but the show is now on the CBS website.

December 2005

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Wow - I have a lot to report!

In October, I had an audition for a LEAD role in "Rocky 6". Yup - you read that right. I don't think I was right for the role (I was too young and not the right look) - but it was still fun to have a chance to audition for a great casting director. And while I was in the waiting room - who should pop his head in the room? Sylvester Stallone! He is directing as well as starring the film. So that was a lot of fun.

Last month I went to producers for "Hot Properties" on ABC. And then the following few weeks were consumed with packing. Our apartment building in Sherman Oaks is being torn down to make high price condos. Because that is what we need - more unaffordable housing in LA! It is so ridiculous here. If you don't make gobs of money in this town good luck finding a nice place to live in a safe neighborhood. And forget about buying a home here. A tiny 2 bedroom one bath house goes for well OVER a million dollars in the Valley. Insane. But we managed to find a decent apartment in Encino.

I was called in for my first ever looping session (adding dialogue or background dialogue). I went in for looping for "The Unit". I was concerned about having to synchronize lines with my image on screen. But when I got to the Warner Brothers lot (a BEAUTIFUL lot by the way. I would like to take one of their studio tours sometime) I was only adding an off camera line. I enjoyed it. I love being in any kind of recording booth.

And just recently I booked a role in my first MAJOR STUDIO FEATURE FILM!!!

I booked a role in "Because I Said So" starring DIANE KEATON. I love her! I think she is AMAZING and has had such a remarkable career. It is directed by Michael Lehmann ("Heathers", "The Truth About Cats and Dogs").

I am thrilled! I play a SINGING BRIDE. My audition consisted of improv where I was to toast my new husband and then sing in a bad "American Idol" style. So I sang "I Will Always Love You" in a low range with a lot of bad overacting. At the callback the director was there (along with a producer and writer). They had me try a different style of singing - so I sang some Donna Summer ("Love To Love You Baby") in a high operatic voice. I think it was quite funny. And I got the role! It is a small role- but assuming it stays in the film - should be cute. I film in January!!!!!!!

October continued

Please check me out on www.imdb.com.

For those not in the industry, this is THE internet resource for movie, tv, actors, etc.

And if you look up "The Unit" - I am listed as "regular guest star". Pretty cool! Of course - that can change - but I am thrilled for now!

October

Well, I recently had my 4th callback in two weeks.

This time I went in for the CBS drama "Night Stalker". It was for a role of a newspaper reporter who works with the lead characters. The audition was at the Sunset-Gower studios, which I have never been to. So that was cool. It looked like it was one of the oldest studios in LA.

The audition went well and I was asked to come back the same evening for a producers session. I had a few hours to go home and work. Then back for the callback. I met three of the producers and was given some redirection. I always enjoy that - because it shows I can take redirection.

So I am thrilled to have all these callbacks - but I want to book more shows. So as usual - I will keep plugging away and networking.
September continued

Well, the callbacks continue!

Just yesterday I went directly to producers for "My Name Is Earl" on NBC. I watched the first episode last week - and it is HILARIOUS. One of the funniest shows I have seen in years. There are A LOT of great new shows this season. It is exciting! It was the same Casting Director who cast me in "Yes, Dear". So it was very nice to be remembered. I think it went well.

And now I got a call to go directly to producers for "Joey" on NBC. The first episode of this season was VERY FUNNY. The best episode so far, in my opinion. I am going to the Warner Brothers lot tomorrow. And this is the same CD who called me in for "According to Jim" and "Jake in Progress". I met him at a workshop - and he now has his own casting office. He has been so wonderful to me- I will always be grateful. So wish me luck!

And it was a thrill to watch David Shore of "House" (he is executive producer and writer) win the "Best Writing for a Dramatic Series" Emmy for writing the episode "Three Stories". How great to be in that episode - albeit in a small role. I was so happy for him and the show- and I am proud to have filmed two episodes of "House".
September continued

Well, I recently has an audition for a new NBC (mid-season) drama "Windfall". It was a pilot ordered by FOX. When FOX passed, NBC picked it up for mid-season. It is an ensemble show (some of the stars are Luke Perry, Sara Wynter, etc) about a group of friends who go in on some lottery tickets and win. It follows how their lives all change - in good ways and bad. (Hmm...what is bad about winning the lottery? Sign me up!).

The role was for a personal chef that one of the winners hire. There were two nice scenes. And the auditions were at the Santa Clarita studios where I filmed "The Unit"! I actually saw the AD and he said "Are you here for something else"? We had a nice chat and he thought it would be fun to play a trick and take me to the set of "The Unit" and say "Ingrid is ready". Hee hee hee!

Well, the audition went well. I was given some redirection. And I was immediately told to come for a callback.

The callback was Monday. In the room was the casting director, associate, a producer, and the director. The director actually knew a lot of the directors on my resume - so that was cool. I did the scene and then got some redirection. The director said I did a good job. And that was it. So we will see. It is out of my hands now. I was just happy to get some redirection - so I can show a bit of what I can do.
September 2005

Hello all!

I BOOKED TWO MORE EPISODES of "The Unit" for CBS. YIPEE! I can now say "recurring"!!! I am back as a military wife. I had hoped my role on the first episode could possibly become recurring. And it did!

For my second episode - I was booked for a full 8 days. They only ended up needing me for 2 days. The first day we were filming on location in a restaurant in Valencia (yes – the town used to be all orange groves). The guest star was Michelle Greene (“LA Law”). It was a scene with some military wives. The production rented the restaurant (a Hamburger Hamlet) for the day so we took it over. I didn’t have any lines in this scene – so it was all reaction.

My second day of filming was at Santa Clarita Studios. I was happy - thinking it would be air conditioned. But because the AC was so loud in this particular soundstage they had to keep turning if off. So it was quite toasty. They have two soundstages. The soundstage I was on had two sets (two houses). We had two scenes to film in the living room of Molly Blane (Regina Taylor). This gave me the meatiest scenes I have had so far in "The Unit. I think it went well.

And yesterday I filmed my THIRD episode of “The Unit”. I was back filming at the Santa Clarita studios. But here’s a funny tidbit – this time my name in the script was Bravo Beth (as in Bravo Team – the special forces team name)! First I was Wife #2, then Gina, then Bravo Beth (I have decided my character is schizophrenic. Or maybe has an alias!). No one ever refers to me by name – so it doesn’t really matter. It just cracks me up. On my trailer door it said "Gina aka Bravo Beth". Hee hee hee!

It was a very long 14 hours on the set. And the on the soundstage – the AC was broken! They turn it off whenever we film anyway –but when they DID turn it on it was just lukewarm air blowing. The poor make up artists had a full time job dabbing the sweat off everybody. So let’s just say I am drinking GALLONS of water today.

The scene was me with the three female leads, and then the guest star. We were preparing to have a Senator over for tea. It was 4 short scenes (well, short when they air. But it still took hours to film them). The guest star was Lindsay Frost (“The Ring”). She was lovely to work with. And I got to chat a bit with Robert Patrick (“Terminator 2”, “X-Files”). And I got a glimpse of Dennis Haysburt (“24”). So the only male regular I have yet to see is Scott Foley (“Felicity”).

I got a nice compliment from one of the producers. And she also co-wrote this episode. So that was lovely. I thanked her for bringing me back. It is always great to meet a powerful FEMALE in Hollywood. That is another reason why this show is great. Half of the stories follow the female characters.

And – here is something interesting. I was chatting with one the wonderful casting directors. And she said was just over at the set of “According to Jim’ and was in Jim Belushi’s dressing room. And she said he has a large picture of him and I on his wall! I am guessing it is one of the photos from our episode (like the one I have on my home page). How flattering. I was just thrilled. He must have really liked my performance.

So now it is just a waiting game to see if they ask me back again. Keep your fingers crossed!

In other news My episode of "Yes, Dear" re-aired recently on CBS. That is the third time in primetime! Awesome!

And my second episode of "House" (yep - the Emmy nominated "Three Stories") just re-aired. And the Season One DVD came out. I may have to take a look at the "extras" and see if my deleted scene from "Mob Rules" is on there. I would love to see it!

July 2005

Yeah! Things have started picking up again. The summer is so dead around here, as far as auditions go. But I have been very busy.

I have a new reel up with all of my latest shows. Please take a look and let me know what you think (please sign my guestbook). I am pretty proud of it.

My episode of "Yes, Dear" reaired last month on CBS. I didn't even know it was going to be on. I happened to flip channels - and there it was!

I have had some interesting auditions recently. I had my first soap opera audition. Well, except "Passions" is more of an over the top comedy with really bad acting. But it was fun to audition for it. I also went in for a guest star role on "Nip/Tuck". I then went in for "Unfabulous", a show on Nickelodeon. Then "The King of Queens" for CBS. I was really sad that I did not get that role - since I LOVE that show. But I have been trying to even get in to audition for that show for a year - so I guess it was an accomplishment to even get in.

I also was called for jury duty in Beverly Hills! Beverly Hills! Please! I can't stand going there. I am too poor to even show up in Beverly Hills. And guess who was in my jury pool. Jamie Lee Curtis, Oscar nominee Robert Forester, and Farrah Fawcett! (What is this - 1979?). VERY BIZARRE. Toto, we're not in Seattle anymore

In other news, a lot of the agent audition submissions are now done electronically. So I also put two one minute reels (one comedy, one drama) on Breakdown Services. This way my agent can attach a short reel along with my picture and resume when she submits me for roles.

BOOKED! I booked the CBS midseason show "The Unit". YEAH! It is written and produced by the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Mamet.

(from CBS's press release) THE UNIT stars Dennis Haysbert ("24"), Scott Foley ("Felicity"), Robert Patrick ("The X-Files") and Golden Globe Award winner Regina Taylor ("I'll Fly Away") in an action drama that follows a covert team of special forces operatives as they risk their lives on undercover missions around the globe, while their families maintain the homefront, protecting their husbands' secrets.

I filmed it a few days ago. I played one of the military wives. I have a small part - so I don't even know if I will show up very much in the final edit. I did get to work with Regina Taylor (Emmy nominee for "I'll Fly Away). Pictures will be posted soon.
June 2005

Well, in May my second episode of "House" aired. And my scene was still in it! YEAH!

The new network seasons were announced and a lot of good shows were cancelled (with a lot of roles for guest actors). And a horrific lack of sitcoms on the schedules. I obviously moved to Hollywood at the wrong time. Some of the reality shows are gone - but obviously that trend is never going away. I'm just going to have to write my own sitcom. If only I did not have this pesky day job and acting career getting in the way.
April continued

Wow! I have been busy. I was cast in a second episode of "House". So I can now say I am recurring on "House". Even though they cut my scene from "Mob Rules" - I filmed it and got credit. So they called me back again for a nurse (episode "Three Stories"). And I have a much better scene. Very dramatic (me and Hugh Laurie)!! I went to the table read. It was nice to see everyone again (some of the cast remembered me).

The following week I had another audition for "The Comeback" (new HBO comedy starring Lisa Kudrow). The CD was very nice and said they loved me last time - but the role was written out of the script. The audition went well and she told me to come to the callbacks with producers two days later.

THEN - the next day I had an audition for "Desperate Housewives"! It was just a one line part - but I have been trying to get in this CD office since I have been in LA.

That Friday I had the callback for "The Comeback" at Paramount. I got there really early - hoping I could go first - since I had to be at the FOX lot to film my scenes for "House" by 5:00pm

So I raced over to FOX and made it on time. But we never got to my scene. So I was told I would have to come back the following week. Fine by me - another day of work on a set. Yeah!

Then it gets better. The next week I get a call from my agent that I BOOKED "DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But it filmed that Wednesday - and I did not have my new filming date for "House". So - we made some calls and of course - I was set to film "House" on Wednesday! And they did not know the call time (to see if I could do both). So unfortunately I had to turn down "Desperate Housewives". It was a small role - but it still would have been nice. Hopefully they will think of me again in the future.
April continued

Well, I just saw my name in the current TV Guide! My "According to Jim" episode is going to run again this Tuesday, April 5th at 9pm on ABC.

I was a bit surprised because when I last called post-production they did not think it would air again until the summer. So it snuck up on me!

And my clips from the show have been featured on 3 Disney DVDs!!! I guess as promos for the show. So that is awesome!

So everyone should email ABC (at www.abc.com) that they need to bring back that character Sheila on "According to Jim" and that actress Ingrid Sanai Buron. Let's start a leter writing campaign! Hee hee hee!
April 2005

I am so behind in posting my news. Bad, bad actor! I have just been so busy with my day job and acting career (and all that goes along with that!) that I have barely had a moment to breathe.

I had THREE of my shows air in the month of March.

First up, "Yes, Dear" aired on CBS. It was great. I was thrilled with it and the episode was very funny. They did cut one of my lines (and I didn't have that many to start) - but that is the way it goes.

Then I auditioned for an Aaron Spelling pilot, "Crazy". It is an hour long pilot starring Lara Flynn Boyle for UPN. Well, audition isn't the correct word. I was the only person the CD called in! It is the same lovely lady who cast me in "Medical Investigation". So she presented my tape to the producers as "This is the one! She is the one!" So I got the part! Yeah! It was a co-star part - but it would have been a cute scene with the star of the show.

Here's the catch. After talking to the costumers and getting revised scripts - I get the call that UPN decided to only do a pilot presentation. So they cut my scene. And since I didn't film it - I can't put it on my resume. If they decide to go back and finish the pilot - I will be in it. But I won't hold my breath.

Then a few days later the same lovely CD called me in for another pilot. The audition went well, but I think they went with someone much older (who was on The West Wing!) and a bigger resume. But it was for a recurring role - so I am happy to get called in to read.

Then I had auditions for two more pilots, "Bobby Cannon" and "Blue Skies". And I went to producers for both! So that was cool and I was happy to get to meet new CDs. And I had an audition for the new HBO show "The Comeback" starring Lisa Kudrow. It was with a top CD office and I was thrilled to finally get an audition with that office.

Then later in March my episode of "House" aired. And guess what - my entire scene was edited out! And unfortunately I can't get a copy of the scene. Sigh.

And just yesterday, my "Jake in Progress" aired on ABC. And they did not cut me out. Yeah! I only had one line so I was worried they might. But I was there and it was a cute scene. The entire episode was quite funny.

And just today - I found out I will be filming another episode of "House"!!!! Yipee!! I had sent a postcard to the CD with a subtle hint (wink! wink!) that since I was edited out - they can use me again! And now they will. Cool!
February 2005

So much news!

So I filmed "House" on my birthday. Nothing like getting up at the crack of dawn on your birthday. But I can't complain!!

I arrived at the FOX lot about 40 minutes before my call time. I can never sleep before I have an acting job here in LA - so I was a bit anxious to get to the lot. Plus I did not want to be late since my scene was up first.

I am glad I was there early because things move so quickly on these shows. I arrived at my trailer and was immediately whisked away to hair and makeup. I was asked what I wanted for breakfast. Then while I am sitting in the chair having my hair done- here comes breakfast and coffee. I can never get used to people waiting on me. I always feel guilty. Well, maybe when I get my own show I won't mind so much....hee hee hee!

Then I had a few minutes to get dressed in my trailer (aah...scrubs again. How flattering!). Then it was off to rehearsal on the set. And the rehearsal, like everything else, was wham! bham! It just flew by and I barely caught what the director was saying. Then I was whisked back to hair and makeup for touch ups. Then back to my trailed to wait.

Then I was called to the to set to film. When I got there the 2nd team was still rehearsing for the cameras. Then Hugh Laurie introduced himself. He was very kind - especially when I told him it was my birthday. He joked, in his lovely British accent, "Oh, your gift is at the engraver". I told him he could send it to me. He was very kind - and very TALL.

It was then time to film. The scene was very challenging.

And then - it was over! And basically as soon as you are done (as a co-star) they basically kindly throw you off the set. They want to sign you out and get you out of your dressing room for the next actor, I guess. I understand it - but I would love to have stayed and watched some more filming.

So I went to sign my contract. And on my way back from the office - who do I see but Hugh Laurie. So I boldly went up and thanked him for being so kind. Then I asked for a photo with him. He said yes! And I got a GREAT photo with him (did I mention he is TALL?). On many of the shows I can't get any photos because everyone is too busy. So I just lucked out that I saw him outside the set (ok - I was keeping my eye out for him).

So my day was done. I made a stop to give a thank you goodie bag to the casting directors. I always make sure to thank the people who cast me. They like me - they really like me! Yeah! They rock!

Auditioned for my first series regular role on a PILOT!!

Today I had my first audition for a series regular on a pilot. Woo hoo!

I heard about the audition last week for a sitcom pilot with a role for an "attractive and confident plus size woman". Hello? Did someone say my name? And for a funny role! Yee hah!

But since I have not had any pilot auditions this season I did not want to leave this to chance. The trend for pilots seem to be established stars only. And MOVIE stars! Or people with tons of guest stars or with an A+ agency. I did not want to miss out - so I asked for a favor. I contacted the vp of casting that I met in NYC (as a result of winning the BRAVO contest). He was in charge of the New York casting. I asked him if he could help get me an audition with the casting director here in LA. He emailed me back and said no problem. How awesome is that! He has always been so kind and helpful. What a prince among men!

So I printed the sides. It was a 10 page scene. So I met with my comedy acting coach and got some good advice and direction. And I read the entire script. It was very funny and would be a great show. The writer/producer writes for SNL (Loren Michaels is also a producer).

It was hard to concentrate this weekend with the audition looming. And last night I rehearsed with my dear friend Kevin. That was very helpful. I could barely sleep last night. But this morning I got up and tried to calm myself. I rehearsed some more and then tried to become very Zen and not put too much pressure on myself. Nerves can just take over if you let them.

So I went to the office for the audition. I chatted about "According to Jim" with the casting director and associate. I then performed both scenes I was assigned. And I was given some redirection and complimented on the fact that I took the redirection. I got some laughs...and that was it.

Now I have to put it out of my mind. There is no point in thinking about it - since very few people get pilots without out tons of LA credits. It is out of my hands. But I did a good job - and that is all I can do.
January cont

Well, my episode of "Strong Medicine" aired last night. And they cut out part of my scene! I had a few more lines and a dramatic exit that was cut. Oh man! That stinks! It was a good little scene before it was chopped. I know that happens in film all the time - but I didn't know it happens in TV shows.

Oh well. C'est La Vie!

Onward and upward to the next challenge. I film "House" tomorrow.
January cont

I just booked another show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will appear on the FOX medical drama "House" with Hugh Laurie. I will be playing Kimberly, a nurse.

And it all happened so quickly. I got the call late Thursday morning for an audition that afternoon at the FOX lot in Century City. I quickly printed up the scene and learned my lines. I then made my way across town to FOX. When I showed up at the casting director's office - it was me and 6 women in their 50s! So I didn't think I stood a chance as I was obviously the "alternate" choice. So I just went in the room and had fun. I was given very positive feedback - but I didn't think anything of it.

Then Friday at 2pm I got the call that I booked the job! I had to be at the table read at 4pm! And at the time I was passed out on my couch from a horrible cold. So I raced back to Century City.

As I was making my way across the FOX studio I passed the back lot where there was some filming going on. What was it? But one of the final episodes of "NYPD Blue"!! I stood there and watched Dennis Franz, Mark-Paul Gosselar, etc shooting a scene. How awesome!

Then I went into the conference room for the table read. I was early - but Robert Sean Leonard was already in the room. I absolutely LOVED him in "Dead Poet's Society". He was so nice and said hello. I then met several other cast members. And then who walks in? But BRYAN SINGER! That is right - the AMAZING director of some of my favorite movies: "XMen", "XMen 2", and "The Usual Suspects". And I got to say hello and shake his hand! He is one of the executive producers of "House". He had just flown in from Australia where he is in pre-production for "Superman Returns". Holy Crap! I was so thrilled.

Then we did the table read. I got a few laughs for my little scene ("House" is pretty much a "dramedy"). And since I play a nurse in the hospital - I don't see why I couldn't become recurring? Why not? Hee hee hee.

And I am set to film on Tuesday - my birthday!
January 2005 continued

MY NEW REEL IS UP! Yeah! Please check it out.

And I just found "Police Beat" will be shown at Sundance! I filmed a supporting role in the film in Seattle. That is so cool!

I just wish I had known about it. I would have loved to go to Sundance and see it. Well, assuming I could have afforded it! Probably not - but still. I am dying to see some snow.

It is going to be in the upper 80s here this week. IT"S JANUARY! That is not right! My birthday is coming up February 1st and many, many times growing up it snowed on my birthday. And I loved it.

Ome of my fondest memories was a birthday in high school. I was having a big party (I was famous for my fantastic parties. Great food and great mix of people. People would always come - even though I never served alcohol. We would have so much fine - who needs it!) There was a huge snowstorm the morning of my birthday. I was sure no one would make it - as my parent's house was on the bottom of a pretty steep road.

Well, the first hour went by and no one showed up. I was pretty upset - and then the doorbell rang. All my friends had parked their cars at the top of the road and walked down in the snow! I was so touched and we had a blast.

I fear for this birthday I will be in need of air conditioning and sunscreen. Not quite the same vibe.
January 2005

Happy 2005!

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has signed my guestbook. Thank you so much for all your kind words! I so appreciate it.

Here is the latest news....

In December, I went to producers for a guest star role on "Joan of Arcadia".

I was prominently mentioned (at the top!) in The Wallis Agency annual newsletter. And they included the photo with me and Jim Belushi!

My "Strong Medicine" is now set to air Sunday, January 30th at 9pm on LIFETIME.

December 2004

Happy Holidays!

This has been a hectic month so far. I have a new reel (with clips from "According to Jim", "Medical Investigation", etc.). It should be up on the site soon.

And my film "Gory Gory Hallelujah" was mentioned in the Holiday Movie Guide issue of "Entertainment Weekly". It should have a premiere in LA in a few months.

And I was TV again in Seattle" "Evening Magazine" aired my story again with updates from LA. That was fantastic!

I am off to bake Christmas cookies!
November 2004

I have neglected my "NEWS" section! My website has a new look - and I am very happy with it. I went a bit crazy with the "HEADSHOT" section. But I loved so many of my photos - so I thought - why not?

I had a great time filming the "Untitled John Stamos Project". I was able to meet John and shake his hand at the table read. He was nice and very handsome. Then the day of filming arrived. It was on location at a house in Pasadena. Unfortunately, the script was changed by the time we got to the day of filming. My character started out as the nemesis of one of the regular cast members. But the last script was changed so I was just a crabby mom. Oh well!

And I recently went to producers for the ABC sitcom "Less Than Perfect". And I am going to get a new reel edited and get that out to people I have met in the industry. And I found out my episode of "Strong Medicine" is currently slated to air Sunday, January 23rd.

Hopefully this year I will get to audition for some pilots and some more guest star roles. And I want my own show!
October continued

Well, I just booked my 5th job in a row! WOW! Things are INSANE right now.

I am filming "Strong Medicine" tomorrow. And I found out I booked the new John Stamos comedy (no title yet - so currently it is the "Untitled John Stamos Project"). It should air on ABC in the spring. YIPEE!!! It is either feast or famine in this town.

And my "According to Jim" episode aired tonight. I was really happy with how it turned out. What a hoot to watch it on TV - and know I had friends and family all over the country who were sitting at home watching it as well!

More news when I have a moment to breathe....

I just booked "Strong Medicine"! Holy crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am on a role - no pun intended! Wow. Four in a row. Not to be too corny - but my dreams are starting to come true. Hopefully - the next step will be some guest star roles and then a recurring/regular role on a show! I want my own show - is that too much to ask? Nah! I just want my job to be going to a set everyday to ACT! No more day job (even thought everyone at my day job is fabulous and very supportive). To make a living from acting - it gives me chills just thinking about it.

Hopefully if I keep working hard and have great people pushing for me - and with a lot of luck - my ultimate dream will come true. I sure hope so!

And a thanks to everyone who has been so supportive and kind to me. I can't tell you what it means to me.

October 2004

Whew! Am I tiiiiiiiired! This has been a busy few weeks. I have been super busy sending out postcards for the upcoming "According to Jim" episode. And I have been dealing with getting my new headshots reproduced. There were so many FABULOUS shots (thank you, Laura Burke!) that my agent and manager want a lot of photos. But it gets pretty pricey to reproduce several different 8x10s.

I recently had two auditions for national commercials. And I had an audition for the Lifetime drama "Strong Medicine" And today I had the callback to producers! Yipee!

And then I got a call to go straight to producers tomorrow for a new John Stamos show. Double yipee!

I filmed my scene for “Medical Investigation” on Friday. It was fun – but VERY different than my experiences on the two sitcoms.

I went to Paramount Studios. This was very cool! SO MUCH HOLLYWOOD HISTORY! The lot is so beautiful and regal. I parked my car near the famous water tank where Charlton “Mr. NRA” Heston parted the Red Sea in “The Ten Commandments”. That cracked me up!

I then went to the studio. I was brought to my trailer and I got in my lovely costume – scrubs!

I then went to the stage. There was a complete hospital set. Next to it was the set for the home of the NIH. My scene was in an office. We then filmed for several hours – doing the scene from all sorts of angles – just like a film. It was a very different atmosphere. You never really get introduced to anyone. It all happens so fast and you feel very much like hired help (on the sitcoms I felt more like a member of the cast for a few days).

Then I was done! The director and producer thanked me and said I did a good job. Unfortunately I got out too late to make my callback. I had been called directly to producers for the “Gilmore Girls”. Hopefully they will think of me again!
September 2004 continued

Well, my good luck continues!

My agent called - she got a call for me to go directly to producers for "Gilmore Girls". YIPEE!

However, it would be the same day that I am supposed to film "Medical Investigation". Go figure! Just my luck. So I am not sure if I will be able to go to the callback. Keep your fingers crossed!

WOW! I just booked another show! I just booked the new NBC hour long drama "Medical Investigation"!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the audition this morning (for a co-star role). I went to producers in the afternoon and an hour or so later I got a got from my agent. WOOPEE! I am especially happy to get a hour long drama on my resume since my last two jobs were for sitcoms.

I will film my scene on Friday.

Double Woopee!

So DAY 2 and DAY 3 on "According to Jim" were very busy. Everyday they had a new script so I had to learn new lines (and new cue lines) – so that was a challenge. I had to meet with wardrobe and hair and makeup. We had several rehearsals and then camera rehearsals.

I had many nice chats with the leads of the show. Jim Belushi said I was doing a great job. He was very hands on – since he is the star of the show and a producer. He even gave me some direction (he also directs some episodes!).

I also saw several stars of other TV shows in the halls…and even shared an elevator with Eric Roberts!

Yesterday was show day. I was so nervous I thought I was going to pass out! When I first arrived we did a run through of the show for the cameras. I then went to hair and makeup. I love my hair when someone else (who knows how to deal with curly hair) does it. The hair stylist was amazing! I had another consultation with wardrobe. It was then time for the company and crew dinner.

After dinner I had my hair and makeup touched up and got into my first costume. I then went down to the set. By then the audience was in place (about 200 people. My husband and my good friend were there). I kept getting more and more nervous. I just didn’t want to be the one who messed up! I also gave all the leads thank you cards (I slipped them under the doors of their dressing rooms)

Then it was SHOWTIME! The cast (not me – only the regular cast) went out for introductions went out were introduced. Jim Belushi took questions and chatted with the audience. Then we started! We did my first scene three times. And they threw new lines at us and Larry and Jim did some improv. It was INTENSE but I made it through. Everyone said I did a great job afterwards (including Jim and Courtney Thorne-Smith). I then went and changed for my last scene. I got a new hairdo and got ready. The second scene was the big auction scene. We filmed the auction scene. That was fun – but a bit crazy since there were about 40 extras and Jim loved to chat with everyone (he is the NICEST MAN!). But I got through it and got some laughs. Jim even said I did a great job holding for the laughs before I said one of my lines.

And then we were done! I got photos with all the leads (I’ll let you know when they are on my website) and I can’t say enough about how kind everyone was. Courtney Thorne-Smith went up to Brian and said Hi. And Jim Belushi met my husband and my friend and said how great I was and that they would love to have me back. I joked that I should be recurring as Sheila and be Jim’s nemesis. I was given compliments by the director and writers and producers. Everyone said I was so professional. I did a lot of hugging! All in all it was a FABULOUS EXPERIENCE and I can’t WAIT until you all get to watch me on ABC!
September continued

Well, the day started with the table read of the script. Right off the bat all four leads (Jim Belushi, Coutney Thorne-Smith, Kimberly Williams, and Larry Campbell) introduced themselves to me! So that set the tone for the day. Everyone was SOOOOOOOOO nice! The table read went well. I got some laughs. The entire cast sat at a long table with the director. The room was filled with about 50+ people (producers, writers, crew, etc).

I was then given a tour of the stage. This show is on the same lot (CBS Radford – doesn’t matter that is it not a CBS show. The lot just rents space to various shows) as “Yes, Dear”. But luckily the production building (a huge building with production offices for three shows) connects to the Stage. So I don’t have to go outside - which was great since it was 100 degrees today! Ick!

I then went to wardrobe. Then rehearsal started. We blocked my first scene. It was VERY SURREAL to be doing a scene with all FOUR LEADS of the show! It was fantastic – but odd (this is my life? Cool! Now when can I get my own show??). And after the scene was done Jim Belushi even said was a good job I did! How nice!

We then blocked the rest of the scenes. I had a chat with Courtney Thorne-Smith – and Kimberly Williams gave me a tour of the kitchen! I had a lovely lunch - and we then ran the show again for all the producers and executives.

Then I had to race to a callback to producers for “Without a Trace”! I think it went well. But now it is out of my hands. I just wanted to do a good job (and make my fabulous acting coach proud! We worked on it this weekend) What a day! Now I am going to work for a few hours. I am beyond exhausted!
September 2004

And now I have a callback directly to producers for "Without a Trace"! Holy crap! They didn't even have me audition this time- and it is a four page scene. All dialogue! I am a bit freaked out. I will have to race from CBS Radford where I will be rehearsing "According to Jim" to this callback. Wish me luck!
September 2004

I just booked "According to Jim"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOPEE!

My second major co-star role on a network sitcom in less than a month. I am flying! As you can see by my rampant use of exclamation points!! I am just thrilled. I film next week. I have scenes with all the leads, including Jim Belushi. It is a very cute part and I have two scenes. I am tickled pink!
I will post more info next week. The table read is on Tuesday morning.

I have to go and dance around my apartment in joy. Please excuse me.

Well, I just got the call. I am going to producers for "According to Jim". YIPEE! Everyone cross your fingers and toes! Let's keep this ball rolling.

Hello all! Well, the photos from "Yes, Dear" are up! What fun!
This week I had an audition for "CSI" (playing a tearful hotel maid). And then for the role of a PTA mom on "According to Jim". So I'll keep my fingers crossed. And I recently auditioned for an indie film and a callback for a USC film.

I've got to go mail some more postcards!
Update on days two and three on the set of "Yes, Dear" in Studio City, CA on the CBS Radford Lot!

Oh first the big news was that Janet Jackson was next door at the Will & Grace set. And I saw several famous actors walking around (Jason Bateman from "Arrested Development, for example) which is always a hoot!

Yesterday on the set was a lot of fun. First there was hours of camera blocking. Then they did some pre-filming. These were mainly scenes with babies and children. So we got to film one of our scenes.

Then today was show day!!! First there was more camera blocking and a full rehearsal of the entire show. Then I went to hair and makeup. AAHHH - I love having someone do my hair and makeup. It is fabulous! And everyone was so nice (and you hear all the good gossip!). Then there was this amazing pre show feast. It was unbelievable! Three kinds of salad, amazing chili (and I don't even like chili!), salmon, kobe beef, ribs, chicken, asparagus and green beans, pasta primavera, etc. And there was a chocolate fondue fountain with fruit and marshmellows! And they do this before every show! Wow! Did I mention how actors feel about free food?

Then came the filming. The audience came in (including my wonderful husband who took off early from work! It was so great to have him there!). It was a full house and they were great. I got some laughs when they got to my scenes - so that was awesome. And then we did a company bow. Photos will be posted soon!

And everyone on "Yes, Dear" couldn't have been nicer. It was a great experience! And Mike O'Malley in particular was so kind. Afterwards there were so many compliments from the director and writers and producers. And even Liza Snyder and Jean Louisa Kelly came up and said how funny I was! I was so touched that they did that!

Hopefully this is just the beginning!

YIPEEE!

Well, today was my first full day at the studio!

Well, today was my first full day on the set!!! Ahhhh – nothing like walking across a SCORCHING studio lot. It was about 105 degrees! So by the time I got to Studio 18 where they shoot – I was sweating like a race horse!

So the day started with me trying on my costumes. Nurses scrubs!

Then I went and had breakfast. AAAHH – craft services! I can’t explain the joy of free food for a struggling actor. They had a full spread for breakfast – everything you could imagine!

Then the rehearsal started. They started at the top of the show. My scenes are at the end – so I sat and watched. When they got to my scenes we blocked them and ran them a few times. Then lunch! It was barbeque chicken, baked potatoes, green beans, salad – you name it!

I was able to chat a bit with Mike O'Malley (he is very nice) and with the two female leads, Liza Snyder and Jean Louise Kelly. After lunch there was the run through for the studio/network executives, the writers, etc. There must have been 40 people there!

And that was it. Excuse me while I go drink lots of water. I think I am dehydrated.

More updates tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!
August continued

Hello!

Well, I went for my first Hollywood table read! I went to the studio this morning - CBS Radford in Studio City. A bunch of shows film there (even though most are not on CBS. I haven’t figured how that works yet!) – such as Will and Grace, That 70s Show, the new CSI NY, etc.

I walk in to this big conference room and the production meeting was ending. So I took a seat and felt totally lost! There was a huge table of food and drinks and coffee – and no one I recognized. Then finally the casting director came in. So I asked her what I should do and she said they would get a seat for me – with a sign with my name. She was fabulous and so helpful.

So I sat down and they had me next to the four leads of the show! Mike O’Malley looks across and introduces himself. That was very nice. We then started and some introductions were made…and then they introduced me and the whole room clapped (ahh validation! I need validation!)

So then we read the script around the table. When we were done the second AD (assistant director) took me to wardrobe. And he gave me a quick tour of the set. That was awesome. It is hard to explain – but everything seems small…but also big at the same time. It is very odd! I am used to theaters. But sets for television are so different.

And I found out I will be “pre filming” some scenes and then others in front of the LIVE STUDIO AUDIENCE. Yee hah! That should be fun!

So I go back to the studio tomorrow for a wardrobe fitting!

Well, I just booked my first major Hollywood role (Ok - not major - but paying! And it will air on national television)!!!

I was just cast for a co-star role for the CBS sitcom
"Yes, Dear"! YEEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAA! I play a nurse (all those years of working in the medical field have paid off!) and I have a cute scene.

And why does everything happen at once? I got a callback to producers for "Without a Trace" this afternoon. I had to turn it down because the filming dates conflicted. Ahhhh...someday, Anthony LaPaglia! Someday!

I have the table read tomorrow. I will write back soon.
August 2004

Well the biggest news is that I was in The Hollywood Reporter! Woo hoo! My publicist sent out a press release about me signing with The Wallis Agency. This is one of the top industry papers. Double woo hoo! The notice is under the Press section on this site.

I have had some good auditions. I had an audition for "That 70s Show" and some commercials. And I just had an audition for "Yes, Dear". And I just got a callback! So I am going to producers tomorrow. And now I just got a call to also audition for "Without a Trace" tomorrow. Now one of these days I have to book one of these jobs. Right? Yeaaaaaaaaah.

Oh - and I joined SAG! I finally feel like a professional actor, Somehow it takes having that little SAG card to be taken seriously in this town.

I finally have some of the press photos on my website (under "Photos"). And some new publicity photos on www.wireimage.com

June 2004 continued

I NOW HAVE AN AGENT! WOO HOO!!

So now I feel my career has just really begun here in LA. I know for some people it takes years to get an agent....but it took me years to get to LA - so trying to get an agent for months was just too long! She wants me to get new photos. I will do that in a few months (since I am joining SAG in July I am broke. It is not cheap being an actor in LA). And she has already started submitting me. I am excited!

And I just did a topical sketch comedy show (The Propaganda Machine) at the McCadden Theater in Hollywood. It was fun. I was just happy to be on a stage again.

Will write again soon!
June 2004

I am behind on my posts!! So much to type - so little time! Well, since my last post I have gone to several events with my publicist. I will post my own photos later (someday I will hopefully have the funds to buy a digital camera. That will make the process easier!). I still get a bit nervous during the press portion - but it is getting better. I started experimenting with some goofy smiles. I was getting bored doing the same old smile at every event.

My favorite event so far was at The Beverly Hills Hotel. Swanky! Now that's my kind of party! Fabulous food and drinks and a lovely setting. Some photos are on the following websites from several events:

www.wireimage.com
www.filmmagic.com
www.dailyceleb.com

No need to register. Just go to "Search" and type in
"Ingrid Buron". The more events I go to - the more photos.

I have had some auditions - obviously not as many as I would hope. I NEED AN AGENT! I had auditions for "The John Henson Project", the final episode of "The Practice", and most recently the new Hank Azaria show on Showtime, "Huff".

I have been very busy doing several Casting Director workshops a week. It is great to meet them and get to do scenes. I take so many workshops - it is all a blur sometimes. And I have done agent showcases. And now I have a meeting with an agent next week...keep your fingers crossed!

And my fabulous husband just got a job here! Yeah! We survived being apart for six months. I knew we would make it -but it has been very difficult. He will be working at a great law firm in Downtown LA. And he is already a member of the CA Bar - so he is ready to go! He is wonderful - making this move just for me. He is an amazing man.

And I tried out for the new game show "On the Cover". My friend Kevin is going to be on the show. I tried out and passed with flying colors! I am in the "Active File". So hopefully they will call. It would be fun. I've always wanted to be on a game show!

Well, I must do some mailings and follow up postcards. I just keep plugging away. Wish me luck!
April 2004 continued

Well, I survived my first LA party. I will have pictures posted soon. First, we all went through the press line. It was basically a big clump of photographers and we each stood there and tried to smile for each camera (you get a bit dizzy!). Of course - the publicist first told them my name - since they had no idea who I was or why I was there! But we did have VIP passes - so we got to cut in front of a few hundred people standing in line (when I left - there was still a huge line of people wanting to get in! Yeesh!)

We all then went in - and it was basically a nightclub with a fashion show in the middle. In other words - very LOUD and very DARK. We then had front row seats for the Von Dutch Fashion Show - and Dennis Rodman was the host.

And then when the show ended it turned back into a huge pulsing nightclub. It was so crowed that I basically had to push my way through to get anywhere. And I tried going out on the balcony fo some "air" - but all the smokers were outside so it was like standing inside a smokestack! So I headed home. But all in all it was fun - and a new experience. And now I will know what to do in a press line (like practice a pose and my smile before I leave the house!).
April 2004

OK - time to update.

Well, I had a callback and went to the producers for "According to Jim"!! Yee-hah. But when I got there it was me - and three African-American women. Sooooo...I was an alternate choice. Oh well. But I was thrilled to do a good audition for the producers. Hopefully, they will think of me for something else in the future.

And I recently had an audition for the Ben Stiller/Robert DeNire/Barbra Streisand feature "Meet the Fockers". I wasn't really the right age for the role - but once again I am happy to get in any office. And I was able to leave my demo reel - which is always a plus. Because after watching my reel - how could you not love me? Right? Hello? Anyone? Bueller?

And I now have a publicist - arranged through my manager. I am excited - since I need to get the word out around LA that I won the BRAVO contest. I couldn't afford a publicist on my own - and this way it will be split between several actors. So - my first event will be this Friday. A big Hollywood party with press. How cool! Of course - no one will know me - so it could also be a bit embarrassing! But - I have to start somewhere on the Hollywood food chain. Watch me chew and claw my way up! I will write back after the PARTY!! Hollywood here I come...oh my...what will I wear? Ack!

March 2004

Well, I have been very busy since I signed with my new manager.

I have had 4 commercial auditions - and two callbacks. Not a bad ratio. It just feels so good to be out auditioning. I also just started a Intensive Commercial Class with Josh Rappaport. I needed to brush up on my commercial auditioning skills. And things are very different here than in Seattle.

And most exciting I had an audition for a pilot for a sitcom starring Carolien Rhea. I felt very confident and prepared - but after I saw the other women I think they were looking for a different type. But I was just glad to get in a CDs office - and that I felt I did a good job (I did a pre audition coaching session with Scott Sedita. That was very helpful). I got some laughs - and was able to give them my demo reel.

And now that same office has called me back in for an audition for "According to Jim". Wish me luck!

February 2004

Well, I just signed with a LA management company. I can't wait to start getting out and about. I don't feel like myself if I am not auditioning!

I did audition at The Groundlings to take their Improv classes. I was accepted and I think I will take the session that starts in the spring. It will be fun to have regular improv classes again. I have been continuing with he CD workshops. I have met some really wonderful actors who have been so kind and helpful. I then turn around and help with whenever I can as well. Keep that good karma going.
December 2003

Whew! I finally have a moment to make an entry. I have been busy, busy, busy!

The move down the LA was an adventure to say the least. It was a long drive and a bit difficult with a big moving truck. It took us a day longer that we thought - but we finally made it.

Since I moved to LA in November things have been hectic. First I had to get settled in my new apartment and used to my neighborhood. It is always a struggle at first moving to a new place where you don't know where anything is! The phone book becomes crucial - but I also spend a lot of time just driving around. Sometime that is the easiest thing to do.

And I immediately started Casting Director Workshops. It is a great way to be seen by CDs and to get feedback and redirection. I also enjoy working with some of these great TV scripts. Some are so well written - it is a joy to perform - even if it is only in a class to start.

And I of course have been doing a bunch of mailing to CDs and agents. And I hope to get in some acting and improv classes in the next few months. And I will keep plugging away. It is a numbers game down here - so you have to be persistent. And I am not a person who ever gives up!

October 2003

Well, I am off to LA! That is right. I am moving to LA in mid November. ACK! Things happened so quickly, my head is spinning!

I went down to LA on September 28th. I auditioned for Actorsite and was accepted. So now I can take the advanced classes -which are fabulous. Casting directors teach the classes, so you get practical advice and get to meet and act in front of CDs.

On Wednesday, I met with three VPs of casting at NBC. They were so kind and had some great ideas for me. By the end of the day I had a general interview with the CDs for "Scrubs"!

The next day I had a class at Actorsite with the CD for "Monk". And the next day I was called in for an audition! Wow!

On the 4th, I took a class with a top CD who does many of the Oscar winning Mirimax movies.

The next day I had dinner with two old high school pals who live in LA. That was a lot of fun.

On Monday I had my meeting with the CDs for "Scrubs". They were really nice and I think it went well. They said I should let them know when I relocate to LA. And I was supposed to audition for "Monk" - but the role was written out of the script. Sigh! But I know that happens all the time.

I'll write soon with more news.

September 2003

I recently finished filming my role in the feature film
"Police Beat". It is directed by Robinson Devor (the acclaimed director of "The Woman Chaser", starring Seinfeld's "Puddy" - Patrick Warburton). I am thrilled that I got a chance to work with such a great director! It will most likely be seen nationally and internationally.

I leave soon for LA. I will be meeting with a casting director for NBC (a result of winning the BRAVO contest). The prize that keeps on giving! I will take some classes, see some friends, and try to get used to driving in LA!
August 2003

I keep hearing my spot for Northwest Hospital on the radio. How very cool!

July 2003

I did my first radio spot! It was for Northwest Hospital. I am the second and third female voice you hear. It is a cute and funny spot.

I joined AFTRA this month. I am excited. Since I have done two principal AFTRA jobs I can join the sister union SAG and EQUITY in a year. This will help in LA - since you have to be union to get anywhere in LA.

June 2003

Wow! This will go down as the best month of my life!!!

It started with EVENING MAGAZINE doing a story on me regarding the BRAVO Contest. My first media interview! It was very exciting. (Someone needs to teach actors how to do an interview....I didn't know what I was doing!). The story was great. It was a wonderful story - and concluded with me begging everyone to vote for me!

Then on June 10th I go the call..."Congratulations!" I WON! I won the BRAVO Contest. I was chosen as the "Best Undiscovered Actor" in the country. Over a decade of hard work and perseverance paid off. It was so nice feel validated and to be judged on talent and creativity. (I feel like Stuart Smalley. "I am talented, I have star quality, and gosh darn it - people like me!). And it turns out - I not only won the online vote - but I was voted number one by all the judges!

Then on June 12th I appeared on EVENING MAGAZINE for the second time to tell the Northwest that I won and to thank everyone who voted for me. And this time I got to meet and be interviewed by John Curley. He was very nice and it was a truly fun shoot.

Next I did a weekend acting workshop with the acclaimed casting director
MIKE FENTON (worked with Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppolla, etc). I love working with professionals from LA so I can get used to the different style of auditioning in LA.

I then did a new version of my demo reel - adding the great footage from BRAVO and from EVENING MAGAZINE.

Next I did another video for Microsoft. I LOVE shooting at Microsoft. They have a wonderful studio, everyone is so nice and professional, and the footage is always such high quality. And, may I say, they have the best CRAFT SERVICE table I have ever seen. They treat their talent and crew so very well. AH! Classy!

Then I was off to NEW YORK CITY for my prize winning trip, courtesy of the BRAVO Channel! They put me up at the FLATOTEL again - in a huge room with two bathrooms! Two! Unfortunately, I was up most of the night with a bad case of food poisoning!

The next day is all a bit of a blur. First I went down to NBC and met with a casting director. We had a nice talk and I was able to give him my demo reel. He told me to contact him when I go to LA and he will set up a meeting for me with NBC casting in LA. Woohoo!! Then I was off to my photo shoot with CAROL ROSEGG. It was so much fun. I got to do some goofy shots, as well as some sophisticated - and dare I say it - some sexy shots. Gasp!

May 2003

The voting continues for the "Do You Have 'It'?" contest. I try not to dwell on it - but I want to win!

I took a day class with the casting director and teacher Joey Paul, who was up from LA. It was a fun class and I got to work on a scene and cartoon voice-over (which is a dream job for me!).

April 2003

I am heading off to New York City to do my audition for the BRAVO Channel!!! Aughhh!!! I have been having trouble sleeping - I have been stressing out so much about my audition. We are not going to get out cold reading piece until the day of the audition - so no way to prepare for that. But I am pretty skilled at cold reading - having done it since I was a child (ask anyone I went to school with - any opportunity to read anything aloud - my hand was first in the air). I am more worried about the piece I had to write and prepare myself. We were given a list of questions to answer and "act" out...which is actually quite difficult. But I worked on it with my fabulous acting coach John Abramson - so at least I had some direction and advice. I need to have some structure and be prepared - I would be far too nervous to just wing it.

I am back from NYC. I think it went well. I was first to film in the day - having had a looong flight from Seattle the evening before. I hardly slept a wink! I then got up at 5am to practice in my hotel room. In the car over to the audition I was handed my cold reading - an Oscar Wilde piece! I love Oscar Wilde - and I had read the play (A Woman of No Importance). I only had a chance to read it twice.

When we arrived at the studio I had my makeup and hair touched up. The director picked my outfit - and we were off to the races! It is all a bit of a blur. There was quite a bit of set up time where I stood under the hot lights (I needed a lot of powder that day). Then I did the cold reading and my prepared monologue. Then they had us do some improv - facial expressions matching the emotions they yelled out. I felt it went well - but it is hard to know, really. The director Michael Magnotta, was really nice - as was all the crew. And then - it was over!

I went back to the Flatotel and tried to take a nap. But I was too wired! I did some exploring. I went and bought tickets to two Broadway shows (I decided to stay a few extra days in NYC). We then went to dinner with all five finalists. It was fun meeting the other actors. We are all very different. Then I ran off to see "GYPSY" with Bernadette Peters. It was fabulous!

I then spent the next few days exploring NYC. I saw a second show "Thouroughly Modern Millie". The show surprised me - it was probably the most enjoyable night of theater of my life! I was smiling, laughing, clapping for two solid hours. The star, Sutton Foster, is nothing short of remarkable. As was Christopher Sieber - who was a revelation. He can sing, dance, is hilarious, and handsome to boot. The costumes, the songs, the choreography - the show was flawless. I LOVED IT! And I got my photo taken with the amazing Harriet Harris and Christopher Sieber. What fun! It is now a goal of mine to appear in this show someday!

I also spent a lot of time at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I explored Times Square, Rockefeller Center, The Frick Museum, World Trade Center site, Central Park, etc. All in all - a wonderful experience.

March 2003
My run starts for "Cinderella" with the Northwest Savoyards. I am Portia, one of the "evil" stepsisters (more dumb that evil, actually). I love the role - I get to sing and use all my comedic skills.

I found out I was chosen as one of five finalists in the country for the BRAVO Channel's "Do You Have 'IT'?" Contest!!!! I am going to New York City!!!

February 2003

While watching one of my favorite shows "The IT Factor" (which is a reality show on BRAVO that follows struggling actors) - I saw a promo that said "Do you think you have "IT"? If so go to our website to enter out "Do you have 'IT'?" Contest". So I promptly ran to my computer and printed up the requirements. All actors who believe they have IT should submit a headshot and resume and answer some questions ("What do you think "IT" is?" "Why do you think you have 'IT'?", etc). So I decided to go the extra mile and submit a demo reel as well.
